About

Fansler Farm Maine Coons began in 2021 when a change in homes necessitated a shift from the years-long endeavour called Fansler Farm German Shepherds. We purchased our first two Maine Coons, T’Challa (solid black) and Athena (solid white). We next imported a red tabby female named Caela (pronounced Ky-la)from Russia. Although both Athena and Caela are now retired as breeding dams, they remain treasured members of our family.

At this time, our one breeding female is the sweet blue torbie, Saphire Skye. We have two females up and coming, who will begin breeding sometime in the next year: Amira (black smoke) and Phoebe (blue tortie).

FAQ’s

Where are you located?

We are located in the beautiful Ozark hills region of Branson, Missouri. We deliver as far as Springfield, Missouri or Harrison, Arkansas. Customers must make arrangements for travel to pick up their kitten at the time of adoption. We welcome and encourage visits to our home to meet the kittens and parents!

Are your cats purebred?

Yes. All of our cats are purebred Maine Coons, registered with The International Cat Association (TICA). We provide copies of both parents’ pedigrees with each kitten’s packet. All litters are registered with TICA and provided with documentation for the new owner to name and register the kitten in their own name.

Do the kittens come with breeding rights?

Generally speaking, no. We provide kittens as companion animals. Our contract stipulates that new owners will be responsible to have them fixed at the appropriate age (we recommend between 6-12 months). This is enforced by the TICA registration being limited to “Not for Breeding.” For those interested in breeding, there is an involved application process and a significant difference in price. Breeding is a serious responsibility that we take seriously and expect others to as well.

What vet care and extras can I expect to be included with my kitten?

We take every litter to our trusted veterinarian at least twice before adoption. Kittens are wormed and receive two rounds of shots, including a 5-way and feline leukaemia. All kittens are microchipped. At the time of adoption, there remains one booster shot that the new owner will be responsible for.

How old are the kittens before they can go home?

The recommended age for kittens to go to their new home is 12 weeks. Kittens learn a great deal about well-adjusted cat behaviour from their mothers and much of this learning takes place between weeks 8 and 12. Because of that, we will announce the adoption date as the day 12 weeks after birth of the litter. As previously stated, we welcome and encourage visits to meet and bond with your kitten before 12 weeks if you are close enough to make this manageable.

What does it look like to secure a kitten?

There is a deposit process. We ask for a deposit of $200. For litters that have not been born yet, this secures your place in line for kitten selection (granted strictly in order of deposits received). If the litter is already born, you will be allowed to select your kitten at the time of deposit. All deposits are 50% nonrefundable. We do allow a refund of 50% for any reason at all prior to adoption day (circumstances change and we want our kittens to go to a home that is prepared for them!). If for any reason, you wish to delay your kitten selection or we are unable to provide you your desired kitten from our current litter, we allow deposits to roll forward to our next litter. We prefer Paypal as payment method for deposits.

What is your pricing?

We currently ask for a total fee of $1,800 for companion kittens (this includes the deposit) and $3,000 for breeding kittens (based upon our discretion of application and breeding criteria.)

Do you do genetic testing and screening?

Yes. We do a standard Maine Coon genetic screening of all our parent cats that looks for potential genetic abnormalities. Results of these tests are available upon request.

Do you have references?

YES! Please check out our References Page and the Fansler Farm Maine Coon Facebook page to read more.

How do I know this is not a scam?

We are SO GLAD you asked that question! Puppy and kittens scams are rampant and MANY of our happy clients have experienced loss due to scams before they met us. Here are a few tips to help you avoid scams in your search: 1) If the price seems too good to be true, it almost certainly is. It is not cheap to breed Maine Coons. The costs of quality breeding stock, tests/screens, certifications, and veterinary care are considerable. If the price is under $1500, watch out! 2) If the breeder avoids answering your questions, this is a huge red flag. Every responsible breeder cares greatly that their babies are going to a good home and will be eager to answer thoughtful questions from a potential client. 3) If you live close enough, ask to visit the cattery. If not, ask to do a live video chat with the breeder and kitten. Social media profiles are easy to fake; a live interactive chat is not. 4) NEVER send money by Venmo, cashapp, check, or “Friends and Family” option on PayPal. We prefer PayPal for deposits, but only via “Goods and Services.” This provides buyers protections for you. Yes, we pay fees in order to accept money this way. But we care about our clients and do not want to encourage you to take unwise risks. You don’t have to buy from us. But please, PLEASE be careful! If a potential cattery refuses to abide by above-board practices, RUN!!!!

Are the kittens potty trained?

Yes. Potty training a cat is, thankfully, MUCH easier than potty training a puppy! The kittens learn from their mother and also have an instinct to potty where they can dig. If you provide a clean, well-maintained litter box that is easy to access, you will likely have great success. Issues can occur in the lifetime of a cat. But usually these can be overcome with some thoughtful changes in the cat’s environment.

How often do I need to bathe my cat?

As a veterinarian friend likes to say, “Cats are like ovens—they are self-cleaning!” Only in extenuating circumstances do cats need to be bathed.

Should I declaw my cat?

Declawing as a veterinary practice has come to be largely seen as inhumane. As such, we require in our contract agreement that the kittens not be declawed. We encourage the availability of scratching posts and climbing trees.

What happens if I cannot keep my cat for unforeseen reasons?

No judgment. Life happens. Our contract does stipulate that you will never surrender your Fansler Farm Maine Coon to a shelter. If you are unable to find a suitable home for your cat, we will help you by advertising on our page. We have a 100% success rate in helping our families rehome their cat when circumstances necessitate.

What kind of health guarantee do you offer?

From our contract: “Seller will provide a veterinary certificate of health, a complete record of care, and a 10-day health guarantee. Buyer agrees to have cat examined by their veterinarian within 10 days. Should cat be found not to be in good health at time of initial examination, Buyer will opt either to receive 100% refund of the purchase price or to receive a replacement companion/pet from Buyer, provided the first cat is returned to the Seller within 14 days of determination.”
